NATIONAL charity for new music, Sound and Music, is supporting violinist and former Sedbergh Primary and Kendal's Queen Katherine School student, Alison Blunt's tour of a new contemporary piece entitled Rose is a Rose is a Rose is a Rose - Homage to Gertrude Stein. Drawing on famous recipes and writings from the Alice B Toklas Cookbook, literary material of writer Gertrude Stein and extracts from Solo for Voice, by highly acclaimed Austrian composer Elisabeth Harnik, Alison and the ensemble of Elisabeth Harnik (piano), Gina Mattiello (voice), and Heidi Richter (cook), performs the reworked piece at Settle Victoria Hall on Friday, July 8 (8pm) and Ulverston Parish Centre, Saturday, July 9. Apparently, amplified sounds produced by live cooking are an integral part of the performance.
