A BAND with a reputation for their energetic live performances have captured their sound on their debut studio album.

Kendal's The Hey Down Treaders will launch their album 'As I walked Out' with a gig at Ruskins on November 26.

Written, recorded and produced in the Lake District, 'As I Walked Out' sees the popular five-piece take on the theme of travelling, encompassing their usual mix of folk and roots with everything from rock, to bluegrass, to funk.

Colin Blakey, who plays keyboards and flute in the band, said: "We are very pleased with how this record came out. We did it all on our own with quite a small budget.

"We recorded the music live onto 18 tracks in a beautiful converted barn. We just set up there to do the whole album in two weekends.

"This album allows people to hear the music as clearly as we can present it. They are great songs and they deserve to be heard with the clarity that this level of production allows."

For the album, The Hey Down Treaders also brought in a guest musician to add to their music.

"We are particularly pleased to have Ali Pauli playing strings. She is an excellent violin and viola player and she plays on two songs. It gives the album an extra dimension.

"This being our first album we have pushed out in a number of different directions at the same time. The band is very much still evolving at the moment.

"On this album you can hear all the different influences that are present in the five piece band.

"Wayne (Scurrah, guitar and lead vocals) writes the lyrics and the music is very collaborative. Sometimes the lyrics may be informed by the music, so everybody influences everybody else in the writing process."

The Hey Down Treaders have already begun writing material for another album, and will be playing gigs throughout the coming year in support of their music.

'As I Walked Out' is available to buy from the band at gigs, and also online from the band's website.

Tickets for the album launch can be booked through the band's website or Facebook. Also playing at the event are local band Paper Cranes and DJ Shark le Funk.
