A QUINTET featuring some of Cumbria’s finest jazz musicians will be playing at the Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley in the new year.

The Paul Palmer Quintet, led by acclaimed saxophonist Palmer, play jazz of the mainstream to modern variety. They play all over the Lake District, Cumbria, Lancashire and into Yorkshire.

The hard swinging outfit features Geoff Bartholomew on trumpet, guitarist, Jon Moore, Steve Simpson on bass, and drummer Jack Davies, performing a lively repertoire of tuneful bop, swing and blues mainly from the 1940s and 50s.

The gig, which is the next instalment in what has been a successful run of high-profile bookings for Kendal Jazz Club, will take place on January 10.

The Paul Palmer Quintet are continuing form from 2016, when they also opened the annual proceedings for the Jazz club.

Paul Palmer will also be playing with the Quincy Street Quintet at Burgundys in Kendal on January 12.

This comes as part of the weekly jazz nights on Thursdays at the bar, which will be running as usual well into the new year.

The jazz nights welcome a different act each week, providing enthusiasts with a regular fix of their favourite music.

Listings for the weekly jazz nights can be found in the Gazette gig guide.
