KENDAL’S own music and arts festival Moonfest is set to return to the town for its tenth and final year, bringing an eclectic lineup of music and entertainment to Mint Bridge.

Bands from across the country will be visiting the South Lakes to play across three stages during the two-day event.

The organisers have decided to call it a day after this year - which sees the festival return after a year off last year - as the new rugby ground will not be a suitable venue.

Organiser Craig Ross said: “This is the biggest and best lineup we’ve had yet. We’ve spent the most on headline acts.

“It’s going to be spectacular. There will be a massive variety of music, including DJ music run by the Vinyl Cellar.

“We have decided to make this year our final year as the rugby club moves.

“The round of early bird tickets have sold and now we are onto the second tier.

“We usually get around 1500 people coming regardless of the weather, and if it is dry and warm we can get 3000.”

Headline acts include Jeremiah Ferrari, who played Kendal Calling to a packed out tent last year, and Father Funk, who has recently returned from a Canadian tour and released an album this year.

Others bands to play include local acts Molly Warburton, Paper Cranes and Megan S. Divide and Conquer will come up from Lancaster and Graces and Shaft of Steel will come from Sheffield and London respectively. Both have Cumbrian links.

The festival will also feature an array of food and drink, and an area for children to enjoy.

There will also be a fun fair and, for the first time, the ‘Moon Garden’.

Moon Garden is an area which will offer yoga, herbalists and therapy sessions.

Those who purchase tickets for Moonfest will also be entered into a draw where they can win free Kendal Calling or Beat-Herder weekend tickets.

The winners will be pulled from a hat and the prizes, worth over a hundred pounds, include camping and entry to the whole of the festivals.

Tickets for Moonfest can be purchased from the website, and updates on acts booked for the event are available on the Facebook page.

The festival will take place on Friday May 12 and Saturday May 13.
