HAFFNER Orchestra celebrates its 40th birthday on Saturday, June 17 (7.30pm) with a big anniversary concert at Lancaster's Ashton Hall (Town Hall), at Dalton Square. The ensemble took its name from one of Mozart’s patrons in Salzburg, and his 35th symphony, the Haffner Symphony, which features in the June 17 programme along with Schubert's Symphony no 8 (Unfinished) and Brahms, mighty Symphony no 3, all under the baton of guest conductor, Bob Chasey. The orchestra was founded in the early 1970s, as a chamber orchestra, rather than the symphony orchestra it is now. Tickets are available on 01524-582394 (credit card sales), at Lancaster and Morecambe VICs or at the door.
