SOME of the north west’s most exciting musical talent is on it’s way to Kendal this week, as festival favourites Cabbage arrive on tour with She Drew the Gun and Mold.

Popular in the area thanks to incendiary Kendal Calling performances over the last two years, Cabbage are touring in support of their recently-released debut LP ‘Nihilistic Glamour Shots’, which came out early this year on Skeleton Key Records.

It follows a string of critically acclaimed EPs - ‘Le Chou’, ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’, Necroflat in the Palace’ and Terrorist Synthesiser’ - released since 2016, which were also collected onto a compilation record called Young, Dumb and Full Of...’ which was released for Record Store Day last year.

Cabbage are Lee Broadbent (lead vocals), Joe Martin (vocals, guitar), Eoghan Clifford (guitar), Stephen Evans (bass) and Asa Morley (drums).

Not afraid to comment on the political landscape of the country, the five-piece from Mossley, near Manchester, have been hailed as the band to criticise Brexit Britain.

The band’s latest single, ‘Arms of Pleonexia’ is being supported by Annie Mac’s show, Huw Stephen’s and Phi Taggart at Radio 1 along with Radcliffe and Maconie, Marc Riley and Steve Lamacq at 6 Music, as well as Radio X.

Supporting Cabbage are label-mates She Drew the Gun and fellow Mancunians Mold.

Merseyside act She Drew the Gun won Glastonbury’s emerging talent contest in 2016.

They released their debut album, Memories of the Future in April 2016, the record is the result of Louisa Roach meeting with producer James Skelly in 2015 and working with him at Skeleton Key Records.

The result is a dark but dreamlike collection of stories from the songwriter’s life and imagination caught in a bubble of psych-tinged pop.

Louisa’s underground roots lie in performing at open mic events and acoustic gigs, honing her skills along the way, she gained the attention of Radio 6Music last year when Steve Lamacq championed a first release, that led to an invitation to perform a BBC introducing live session at Maida Vale in 2015.

BBC 6 Music made Memories of the Future ‘Album of the Day’ upon its release.

Mold are an up-and-coming band from Manchester whose on stage antics and makeup have cemented their reputation as an exciting live offering.

The band return to the area only one week after they played at The Yorkshire House in Lancaster.
