THE Kelvin Ensemble Chamber Orchestra is on tour and playing Kendal Parish Church on Thursday, May 31 (7.30pm).

The self-funded, student run orchestra was founded in 1991 by a group of students at Glasgow University, providing the young talents from across the university with the opportunity to perform classical music concerts under the direction of professional conductors.

In its first 10 years the acclaimed ensemble specialised in chamber music and was recognised as one of Scotland's leading non-professional chamber orchestras. Down the years the ensemble has increased three fold and now performs symphonic works rather than chamber music, but has continued to allow as many university students as possible the opportunity to perform orchestral music.

Featuring 45 players, the Kelvin ensemble will perform Haydn's 'Clock' Symphony No 101, Mendelssohn's 'Italian' Symphony No 4 and Wagner's Siegfried Idyll.

Tickets available at the door.
