MARYPORT Blues Festival will take its place on the national stage when highlights of the event are broadcast on a special BBC Radio 2 programme this summer.
Material from the main marquee will be recorded for a special edition of the Paul Jones R and B Show to be broadcast on August 31.
Mr Jones is a great backer of the annual Cumbrian event which this year has attracted a strong line up of artists, including John Mayall, Jethro Tull and Ruby Turner.
During a recent interview on Radio Cumbria Mr Jones said the festival is “quite possibly the most important blues dedicated event that we have in the calendar.”
On the Saturday (July 25) Mr Jones will perform on the main stage with The Blues Band as part of their 30th anniversary year tour.
Dave Kelly, of the Blues Band will also be performing solo and will run an acoustic guitar workshop.
The Festival Committee is also working to secure a new headliner after Taj Mahal pulled out last week, due to personal problems.
In anticipation of the big event, organisers will this year host Maryport Youth Festival, on Thursday July 23.
The free event will give youngsters aged 12-19 the opportunity to perform on the main festival stage and showcase their artistic talents with an art exhibition.
The marquee will open at 2pm and entertainment will start at 5pm.
Maryport Blues Festival takes place on the Netherhall Rugby grounds next weekend (July 24 - 26).
