Maximo Park are on their way to Kendal Calling
POP rock quintet Maximo Park, whose cheeky chappy lyrics and bouncing beats have united music fans across the UK, are charged to get revellers moving at Kendal Calling.
The Geordies are headlining the opening night at the local answer to Glastonbury – and are promising an 'energetic and enjoyable time'.
Set to rip up the stage on the Friday night slot (July 27) with their guitar-fuelled songs, hectic keyboards and distinctive North East accents, the five piece has a catalogue of hits under their belts.
And lead singer Paul Smith says he is 'excited' about playing Kendal Calling as loads of his friends will be there.
"It's a really beautiful place the Lake District - just to play music in a place like that makes for a lovely atmosphere," said Paul He said the diverse musical experience was one of his favourite things about going to any festival.
But he added: "There’s also things like being under the stars or watching the sun set that make it special. You don't really get that experience often and it’s brilliant.”
Best known for their 2005 blockbuster album A Certain Trigger – which was nominated for the Mercury Prize – Maximo Park's style and sound have grown since those days. The debut album showcased a range of singles including: Graffiti, Apply Some Pressure and Our Velocity.
Now the group has released a new album, The National Health, which Paul said tried to offer an antidote to people worrying about economic and social stresses.
"We try to say how people can take control of their lives and feel less helpless about things they see on the news," said Paul.
He described The National Health as the band’s ‘most diverse’ musical album and added: "It's like having Maximo Park on shuffle. There is a bit of everything in there. I think as a band with each album we have grown and learned what has worked."
Other headliners appearing at the festival, at Lowther Park, near Penrith from July 27 to 2i9 will be Dizzie Rascal and James. Tickets for the award winning event havesold out.
