The Best of Suzi Quatro: Legend (Chrysalis Records)

Between 1973 and 1980 Detroit-born Suzi Quatro featured in the british charts for 101 weeks.

The first female bass player to become a major rock star, she broke a barrier to women's participation in rock music and has sold more than 55 million records worldwide.

She broke on to the music scene at the height of the 'glam' era and her hits recorded with sing-writing team Mike Chapman and Nicky Chapman - such as Can the Can with its almost visceral vocals, 48 Crash and the splendid Daytona Demon - were loud, anthemic and classics of their time.

Suzi's image was of the 'bad girl' next door, as hard of tracks like Half As Much As Me, and The Wild One and in an album title like Your Mamma Won't Like Me.

But she was also capable of portraying both tough and vulnerable on songslike If You Can't Give Me Love and Wiser Than You.

Eleswhere she dueted with Smokie's Chris Norman on Stumblin' In - with its mellow, acoustic 70s lilt; had a massive hit with Devilgate Drive; and sounded almost like Bad Company on Shine My Machine.

An undiscovered gem here is Skin Tight Skin, a bluesy, slow-burning song that drips languor and attitude.

Suzi is still performing and has a new band, QSP, with glam legends Andy Scott (The Sweet) and Don Powell (Slade).

The Best of Suzi Quatro: Legend is released on September 22 and can be pre-ordered via Pledge - https://SuziBestOf.lnk.to/Pledge
