WRITING a review of this 40th anniversary edition of The Doors’ final long player was one of the easiest jobs I’ve ever had - this was arguably their most complete album.

By the time the record was originally released, shortly before lead singer Jim Morrison’s death, the band had honed their interpretation of the blues and rock and roll to a fine art.

Nowhere is their majesty more apparent than on the title track, which manages to fit hook after hook into one of the best songs ever recorded.

This reissue acts as both the perfect introduction to newcomers and a must-buy for dedicated Doors fans, who will enjoy the bonus CD, which features previously unreleased alternate versions and a newly-discovered track She Smells So Nice.
