OBE and 80s legend, Midge Ure, is set to embark on a brand new UK tour this year to celebrate twenty years since the completion of his hit album ‘Breathe’ - and has named Preston Guild Hall’s Charter Theatre as one of its final venues.

The ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ co-writer will perform the intimate acoustic gig to almost 1000 fans on October 14 at the central Preston location alongside folk duo India Electric Co.

Recently under new management, Preston Guild Hall has announced a number of top acts to perform headline gigs during 2015 including Ure’s Band Aid partner Bob Geldof and fellow eighties star Rick Astley.

Midge Ure said about the tour: “As well as the Breathe album we'll be giving the usual suspects a makeover, so you'll still get to hear the other hits. I'm looking forward to it!”

Initially rising to fame in the early 70’s as a guitarist in band Salvation, Ure moved on to star in other bands including Rich Kids, Visage and Ultravox where he had a number of worldwide hits such as ‘Reap the Wild Wind’ and ‘Dancing with Tears in my Eyes’ before later crafting a successful solo career.

Ure’s most famous endeavour is his co-organisation, alongside Bob Geldof, of charity phenomenon Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 which has helped raise millions of pounds for the Ethiopian famine and most recently the Ebola outbreak in Western Africa.

Susan Burns, of Guild Promotions Ltd., newly founded promoters for Preston Guild Hall, said: “This is the third big announcement in the past few weeks of big hit performers coming to Preston Guild Hall which is fantastic news as we look to revitalise the venue as the top Lancashire entertainment hub it has the potential to be.”

Recently taken over by a local entrepreneur, The Guild Hall first opened its doors in 1972 and has seen some of the biggest names in rock, including, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Queen play at its Grand Hall.
