THE headliners for the Saturday night of West Cumbria’s newest music festival have been announced.

Fresh from supporting the Kaiser Chiefs on their arena tour, Public Service Broadcasting will top the line-up at Northbound, which takes place at Wellington Farm in Cockermouth from August 7-9.

Billed as one of the most creative new talents around, the duo, J.Willgoose Esq and his drumming companion Wrigglesworth, will showcase their unique mix of vintage archive footage and modern video projection, set to a lively mix of guitar, banjo, strings and electronics.

Their live stage show takes samples from old public information films to, as they put it, ‘teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future’.

Northbound organiser Anna Lyttle, of CN Events, said: “We’ve battled to bring Public Service Broadcasting to Cockermouth– they’re going to be fantastic.

“Last year they appeared at Glastonbury and Bestival and in support slots with The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park and it’ll be amazing to say we had them here at Northbound in our first year.”

Already announced for the Cockermouth event are Cumbrian rock band Colt 45, who will close the festival on the Sunday night. Dub Pistols will head up the opening Friday night.

The Beat and Echotape will also appear on the main stage on Saturday.
