IT’S shaping up to be a busy year for Penrith singer-songwriter and producer Jamie Borrowdale, with new singles, videos, EP and an album all on the way.

The 23-year-old is also making a huge splash online with music platform ‘Tradiio’.

His single ‘I Need Music’ topped the Tradiio charts in just one week, with all five tracks from his EP of the same name dominating their International Chart, taking five of the top six slots including Number 1.

Tradiio named Jamie Borrowdale “Artist of the Week” on the back of that amazing achievement.

On why his songs have resonated so much with listeners, Jamie said: “I’m a producer so I know how to make the music sound professional, like radio standard.

“I’d like to think the songs are alright as well – I’ve been playing music since I was seven, so I’ve been doing this quite a while now.”

The Westmorland Gazette encountered Jamie in 2008 when he was lead guitarist in Kendal’s top rock band “Decorate in Flames”. Jamie left the band to study “Music Production & Film Composition at Leeds College of Music where he gained a BA (Hons).

Now based in Penrith, he has been playing local gigs and working to complete his first solo EP with an album also on the way.

He creates intense euphoric songs with an acoustic tone incorporating large dance beats, meaningful lyrics, dashes of rap, organic instruments, soulful riffs and guitar solos that draw you right into the song.

Jamie Borrowdale was also picked up by BBC Introducing in February, gaining air play and great praise from BBC Cumbria’s John Lipscombe.

His new video for “I Need Music” was shot on the North Yorkshire Coast and previews have received a great response and praise from professional eyes in the business.

It will launch on Vevo at the end of June.

“We shot it on a really small budget in Robin Hood’s Bay and it’s turned out really well,” said Jamie.

“You have to use a lot of online platforms these days - if you play at Glastonbury and do really well but people can’t find you online afterwards, you’ve just lost thousands of fans.”
