CLIVE Walkley's Pro Nobis Singers are staging their next concert at Kendal's St George's Catholic Church, on Sunday, March 20 (7.30pm).

The From Plainsong to Pärt concert at the New Road church, was originally scheduled for St George's Anglican church just across the river but the church boilers are still out of action following the December floods.

The programme begins with 16th and 17th century sacred music from Spain, Portugal and Italy. Much of the music is of a serious and devotional nature, music of great beauty written to nourish the spirit at a time when so much of central Europe was at war. St George's Catholic Church, with its highly resonant acoustic, is an ideal performance venue for music originally written to be performed in large stone churches.

The programme continues with music from the present day, featuring works by well-known Lakeland composer, Robin Field, and recent pieces by young Norwegian composer, Ola Gjeilo. The performance concludes with the music of John Taverner and Arvo Pärt.

Tickets are available from Made in Cumbria, 48a Branthwite Brow, Kendal, or by telephoning 01539-723482.
