A blues guitarist who made his name playing with the likes of Johnny Winter and Walter Trout whilst still a teenager is playing Kendal.

Laurence Jones and his band will be at Bootleggers on April 14 as part of his first headline UK tour in support of third studio album 'What's It Gonna Be'.

The winner of the Young Blues Artist award for the last two years, Laurence recently got back from the US, where he played Carnegie Hall in New York.

Speaking of his love for the blues, Laurence said: "I like it mainly because the blues is a feeling. I also like to improvise a lot.

"People put the blues in a box and imagine an old guy with an acoustic guitar, but it's actually present in all kinds of modern music.

"The style I play is blues rock. When people come to a show they get honest music. We just enjoy ourselves on stage."

Laurence, 24, from Stratford-upon-Avon, started out playing classical guitar at age eight, and progressed naturally to the electric blues having grown up with it being played at home.

He played in bands throughout his teenage years, forming the first incarnation of the Laurence Jones Band aged 17.

Laurence's current backing band is award-winning bassist Roger Inniss and Phil Wilson on drums.

They played 250 gigs during 2015 - a typically busy year for a musician who has been on tour constantly since he left his university music course to tour with his hero Johnny Winter.

"Touring is what I do and I love doing it," he said. "I used to watch documentaries of Jimi Hendrix jumping from one plane to another and I always dreamed of having that sort of life.

"Our fan base is growing really well and we are happy to be coming to Kendal."

However this can sometimes be difficult, as Laurence suffers from Crohn's Disease. The hectic touring lifestyle and need to watch what he eats can sometimes take its toll.

In order to raise awareness for the disease, he often lends his guitar-playing talents to fundraising events.

Tickets for his show at Bootleggers are available and cost £12 in advance.
