JAZZ fans in the area are to have the opportunity to watch a band that can boast innovative musicianship and diverse influences.

Flying Machines play emotive and dramatic music, drawing upon influences from jazz, pop, progressive rock and metal to create a unique and modern sound.

Formed by guitarist Alex Munk in 2014, Flying Machines features Matt Robinson on piano/keyboards, Conor Chaplin on electric bass and Dave Hamblett on drums.

Alex Munk explained: “I’m drawn to music that combines improvisation with a visceral, head thrashing energy: big, chunky riffs, choppy grooves and the guttural roar of a guitar going at full tilt.

“It’s why artists such as Wayne Krantz and Troyka have always resonated with me. I also love the melodically driven and through-composed music of Tigran Hamsayan, and the lyricism of players such as Pat Metheny and Mike Walker.

“This album draws upon all these varying influences.

They play at Zeffirellis on February 18.
