Lau hits Kendal THE winners of the Best Group category in this year's BBC Two Folk Awards will be performing in Kendal tonight (Friday).

Featuring three of the finest musicians from the world of modern traditional music in Scotland, Lau features Kris Drever, Martin Green and Aidan O'Rourke and over the past couple of years has become one of the most sought-after acts on the scene.

Orcadian multi-instrumentalist Drever takes the lead with vocals, while playing everything from guitar to banjo and double bass to boot.

Green, who boasts a list of collaborations with the likes of Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson and Elliza Carthy, plays accordion.

While O'Rourke, on fiddle, has been touring since the age of 15 and is known for his role in the hugely successful Blazin' Fiddles (Live Act of the Year 2004).

Lau, who were also nominated for Best Album and Best Live Act in the BBC Two awards, will perform in the Malt Room, at the Brewery Arts Centre, from 8pm. Tickets cost from £10.50.
