Invention of Knowledge: Anderson/Stolt (InsideOut Music)

I've never been a huge Yes fan though I love Going For The One and a lot of Rick Wakeman's solo material.

Yes vocalist Jon Anderson has one of the distinctive voices in rock - like it or not, no-one else quite sings the way he does.

So I was intrigued to hear the new album from Anderson and The Flower Kings' Roine Stolt.

It took me some time to come to a firm opinion. Most of the tracks are very long and, in true Prog Rock fashion, don't follow traditional song structures.

So it was quite difficult to get your head around the album. Certainly few tunes stuck in your head.

But it's quite clever - there are musical and lyrical themes that occur and re-occur so that the whole thing hangs together like a symphony.

There are moments of grandeur and I really like the moments when Stolt is given his rein with a guitar solo.

Lyrically it 's all very positive but with its references to 'healing stars', leylines, 'energy', 'faith in my soul' and 'infinity', it can be a bit like a rather vague self-help guide to living in harmony with everything.

An interesting album but at times there just seems to be too much going on.
