Thousands of people turned out to enjoy another hugely successful Lowther Game and Country Show.

With a vast array of things to do and see in the grounds of Lowther Castle, there was something for all the family to enjoy.

The main arena saw displays from gundogs, Tot Longton’s sheepdogs, birds of prey and ‘Cyril the Squirrel’ – a terrier display team.

And the show also played host to qualifying rounds in disciplines including the Mitsubishi Motors World Series Clay Shooting and Gundog Championships and the Terrier and Lurcher Champion of Champions.

Steve Coldearly, 39, and Catherine Mowbray, 28, had travelled to the show from Durham for the first time and both said they were likely to return next year.

Mr Coldearly said: “It’s been really interesting walking round looking at everything.”

And Bryn Phipps, 70, from Doncaster said it had even ranked above the Great Yorkshire Show for him. “All of it has been generally interesting to see, but especially watching the birds and dogs,” he said.

Jane Elizabeth, who owns a confectionery business and had travelled from Dorset to sell sweet treats at the event, said: “I do all the Countryman fairs and it is my second year here.”

Countryman Fairs’ chief executive Ian Harford said: “It is clear Lowther’s return is most welcome with both visitors and traders embracing its new look and feel."
