THE annual Shap Village Show organised by St Michael’s Church was held at the memorial hall and raised more than £300 for church funds.

The decision to move the event forward by one week paid off by attracting more entries and visitors, with several new exhibitors.

The floral art classes attracted fewer entries, but these were of a high standard, and entries for baking and preserve classes were the same as in previous years – with the photography section again popular.

The Flora Fishwick Memorial Cup for the best planted container or hanging basket attracted 14 entries and was won by Freda Cowin.

Other trophy winners were – The John Fishwick Memorial Trophy, best exhibit in show: Anna Dutson. The Ada Ronald cup, best in Floral Art: Rachel Shreeve (arrangement using only three blooms). The Mary Harrison Cup, best exhibit in Handicrafts: Anna Dutson (hooky rug depicting a spray of iris). The Armstrong Cup, best in baking section: Sylvia Hodgson (apple pasty). Most points in the adult classes: Sylvia Hodgson (59 points). At the end of the show, trophies were presented by Edward Hodgson, who also auctioned the produce.

Best in Section Rosettes (in addition to those awarded trophies) - Flowers: Ernest Hudson (Rose). Vegetables: Susan Howard (Cauliflower). Pot Plants: Sandra Irving (Flowering succulent). Preserves: Doreen Lee (Fruit jelly). Photography: Sandra Irving (wildlife study). Children’s classes: Shap School.
