FLOWERS outshone vegetables at Arnside Horticultural Society’s annual show today (Saturday).

Show secretary Neville Jackson said was ‘difficult to rationalise’ how the difference in quality occurred.

“Surprisingly, flowers have done phenomenally well compared to last year, despite the wet summer, while vegetables - which normally like the rain - have done worse than last year.”

More than 300 entries were received for all the show’s classes, which also included crafts, quilting, artwork, home-baked items and children’s classes.

“This year once again, the children have shown exceptional creative talent,” added Mr Jackson.
