A RESTORED organ will be featured in a series of lunchtime concerts at the Royalty Cinema in Bowness.

Some of the UK’s best-known artists will take to the 1927 Wurlitzer at six special presentations throughout summer.

The first concert is on April 16, when David Ivory will be at the console.

Future concerts will feature Peter Jebson, Stephen Austin, Kevin Morgan and Nigel Ogden among others.

Mark Latimer, chairman of the Furness Theatre Organ Project, which restored the instrument, said: “We're really excited that the organ is to be used during the summer.

“We hope the concerts will appeal to the many tourists who visit Bowness during the summer as well as to the many local people who have taken an interest in the Wurlitzer since its restoration.

“David Ivory was associated with this particular organ nearly 40 years ago, when it was in its former home, The Rex Cinema, Stratford, and so I’m delighted that he is able to come and be our first guest artist.”

The concert begins at 12.30pm and tickets are £5 on the door.
