INGLETON has once again been liberated from the clutches of marauding German soldiers.

The village has staged its annual 1940s weekend – when it was transformed into its French twin town of Chapelle De Marais just at the point it was being liberated by Allied troops.

“This year we moved the re-enactment to the park, which worked really well,” said Elaine Ward, who organises the event with husband John. “There was more room so people could see everything. We will do the same again next year as it allows music and dancing to continue in the village square all day.”

Perfect weather meant all the events went ahead as planned and were watched by big crowds.

Attractions included a flypast by a Dakota from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a static Spitfire display and a memorial service. There were also appearances by figures including Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and Neville Chamberlain.

“We will be back again next year,” said Elaine.
