Gallery: Record entry for 'blue riband' fell race at Grasmere Sports

A RECORD number of  runners took part in the senior guides race at Grasmere Sports today.

The race was entered by 191 competitors - around 40 more than last year's field, which was the previous record.

An estimated 4,000 people attended the historic sports event, now in its 162nd year.  They were treated to a full programme of competitive events, including Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, junior track races, tug-of-war, hound trailing and the five guides races, which kicked off with an under-9s field and ended with the 'blue riband' senior race.
