HOURS and hours of hard work has gone into this year’s Kendal Community Theatre production Oh, What a Lovely War.

Under the theatrical guidance of well-repected directors Chris Taylor and Judith Notley, the six-night run at Castle Street Centre, Kendal, opens on Monday, July 21 (7.30pm) with a large cast covering more than 100 parts, a band, projected images and technical effects.

Oh, What a Lovely War portrays the horrors and political mistakes of the First World War in a lively, satirical and sometimes comic way, featuring many songs that came out of the conflict. The epic musical has been hailed as one of the landmarks of British theatre since its first production by Joan Littlewood’s pioneering Theatre Workshop in 1963.

Additionally, KCT is mounting a display of pictures, artefacts and information about soldiers and families from the Kendal area involved in and affected by that war. The display, which can be seen at the centre during the week of the production from 6.30pm, will include items such as a genuine First World War Vickers machine-gun (decommissioned) and costumes from the period.

Tickets for the show are available at the Brewery Arts Centre box office on 01539-725133.
