A BOLD and adventurous new series of intimate productions which challenge people’s traditional views of theatre runs next week at the Brewery.

Featured in the Kendal arts centre’s four-day Right to Roam series of unusual, cutting edge, contemporary productions on Friday, September 19 (7pm) will be Love Letters Straight From the Heart by Fuel Theatre.

Described as part wedding reception, part wake and part radio show, members of the audience are asked to name a song which means something to them and dedicate it to a loved one. The actors then take this dedication and craft a bespoke performance around the audience’s requests. The performance takes place around a luxurious banqueting table and the audience is given a glass of Prosecco with which they can toast the songs and stories of their choice.

Right To Roam also includes an all-male, irreverent new take on Emily Bronte’s classic Wuthering Heights courtesy of Filter Theatre on Wednesday, September 17, plus An Icy Man by Matthew Belwood (September 18) - a miniature village in Brewery boardroom is the venue for a series of Northern folk tales; Beating McEnroe by Jamie Wood (September 19) where the Brewery dance studio is the setting for a show in which a tennis fan examines his life through the microcosm of the 1980 Wimbledon clash between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.

And three productions run on the Saturday - a one-man show featuring animation at a secret venue My Heart is Hitchhiking Down Peachtree Street by J Fergus Evans (2pm and 4pm); When We Embraced by Fallen From Grace (6pm), a charming and intimate show about the insignificance of life, and The Watery Journey of Nereus Pike by Laura Mugridge (8pm), an extraordinary tale of myth, magic and adventure, with sea creatures and glowsticks.
