THE Brewery Arts Centre is marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of a literary giant with a special youth arts production.

This year sees the anniversary of the birth of one third of the Bronte literary trio, Charlotte, and the Kendal arts centre's talented young actors will celebrate the occasion by staging a production of Blake Morrison's We Are Three Sisters.

The Bronte Sisters are responsible for penning some of the world’s most recognisable works of literature such as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

The acclaimed play was first commissioned by Northern Broadsides in 2011 and is set in the Bronte parsonage in Haworth in 1840s where three remarkable young women with a passion for writing are illuminating their dreary surroundings with outspoken wit, aspirations, dreams and ideas.

The three sisters are played by Brewery Young Actors Company stalwarts Abbi Lawson (Charlotte), who took to the stage at the National Theatre in A Shop Selling in 2014; and Eleanor Chandor (Emily) and Rachael Stott (Anne), who both performed in December's Alice production. Completing the cast are Brewery regulars Jake Martin, Elijah Aldridge, Jacob Curry and Sarah Porthouse.

Highly respected Brewery Youth Arts director Tricia Gordon said: “This is a stunning piece of theatre telling the extraordinary story of three remarkable young women with the courage, talent and determination to challenge the male-dominated literary culture of the time with their amazing novels.”

The show will be performed in the Brewery's Malt Room on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 5/6 (8pm). Box office 01539-725133.
