TO MARK today's National Poetry Day (Thursday, October 6) Beetham's Heron Corn Mill is celebrating the life and work of the late poet and novelist Stevie Smith. Born in Hull in 1902, Stevie's work is often darkly humorous, and explores themes such as myths and legend, which were often drawn from her personal view of middle-class British life. Running from 1pm-3.30pm, the audio and visual celebration includes recordings of her poems read by Glenda Jackson, and a special screening of the biographical film Stevie.
