KENDAL Community Theatre presents another ground-breaking drama festival this year celebrating a century of women’s suffrage.

The ambitious and innovative theatre group stages The Trouble with Women from July 19-28, and features five plays performed at two venues in Kendal - Castle Street Community Centre and Kendal Museum - along with town centre performances partnered by members of Cumbria-Westmorland Federation of Women's Institutes.

The plays include Antigone by Sophocles, How We Won the Vote by Cicely Hamilton and Christopher St John, Moira Buffini's Handbagged, Big Fat Pig by Emily Unia, and Changing Times penned by local wordsmith Janice Wilson.

To prepare for the ten-day festival, KCT's highly respected director Chris Taylor is leading an actors’ workshop, It’s All Greek to Me, exploring Greek comedy and tragedy, on Saturday, March 17, from 10am-4pm, at Kendal's Salvation Army Hall.

Jayne Davies and Emma Rucastle will direct plays during The Trouble with Women Festival but there are opportunities for aspiring directors to work alongside them.

KCT is also offering openings for stage managers.

As well a Greek Chorus, the festival needs 30-plus actors.

Workshops are being held by Jayne and Emma on April 14 and 21. Contact KCT via the website to find out more and register or email info@kendalcommunitytheatre.com.
