STORTH Entertainers' next show will whisk you back to the glittering 1930s in a heart warming, entertaining and hilarious musical tale.

Running from Wednesday, September 6 until Saturday, September 9 at Storth Village Hall, Me and My Girl is chock full of memorable songs and top tunes such as Lambeth Walk, The Sun Has Got His Hat On and Leaning On A Lamp Post, and laughter all the way for fans of musical comedy.

"We had no idea just how funny the show is," says the show's director Linda Graves. "Its a real rib tickler from start to finish."

Me and My Girl last played in the West End way back in 1985 at the Adelphi Theatre, clocking up a magnificent eight-year run and 3,303 performances. It landed a clutch of awards, including outstanding performance by an actor in a musical for Robert Lindsay as Bill Snibson.

Following in the footsteps of Robert as cockney charmer Bill Snibson in the Storth version will be highly rated performer Andrew Thompson.

Director Linda describes Andrew as "A wonderful all-rounder," and says the musical showcases his many talents.

In the role of Bill, Andrew has a glorious opportunity to entertain and demonstrate his proficient penchant for singing, dancing and comic timing.

Starring opposite him, as his long suffering girlfriend, Sally Smith, is the very capable Katherine Waterhouse, delivering humour and pathos in equal measure.

"What we liked so much about the plot was that, no matter what happened to Bill, he never once wavered in his devotion to Sally," explains Andrew.

Me and My Girl is a musical by Noel Gay, with an original book and lyrics by Douglas Furber and L. Arthur Rose. It tells the story of Lambeth lad Bill, who learns he's actually the 14th heir of the Earl of Hareford. Set in Hampshire, Mayfair and Lambeth, it's all about Bill's struggle to meet his aristocratic new family's expectations.

The Storth cast stars Audrey Mason as The Duchess of Dene, who is determined to make Bill a fitting heir, and sets out to educate him in the ways of the nobility, and to marry him off to Lady Jacqueline (played by Sarah Graves).

Well-known faces from the region's theatreland in the cast include Simon Yaxley, Mark Crook and Brian Barden.

"We know we have a brilliantly funny show,’ continues Linda. "Because we are still laughing."

Performances start at 7.30pm.
