KENDAL Amateur Operatic Society is ready to swing into musical mode with a cast of colourful characters bringing some all singing, all dancing, magic to town.

Following the Yellow Brick Road all the way to Kendal Town Hall, KAOS stage the classic The Wizard of Oz musical from Tuesday, November 7 until Saturday, November 11.

Developed from the iconic 1939 movie, Naimh Collingwood takes the lead role of Dorothy, the Kansas farm girl who travels over the rainbow to the magical kingdom of Oz where, with the help of a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, a Cowardly Lion and her dog Toto, she has to find a way back home. Question is, can the wonderful Wizard of Oz help her, or will the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys get their hands on her magical ruby slippers?

Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion are played by some of the region's most accomplished actors - Adam Carruthers, Dave Storey and Ian Loi, with KAOS stalwarts Jim Thompson and Richard Sutton as the mysterious Wizard of Oz and Uncle Henry. Newcomer Kirsty Callali is in the guise of the Wicked Witch of the West with the beautiful and good witch Glinda played by Jenny Brooks, who shone as Evita in last year's KAOS spectacular.

Once again, the highly respected and talented duo of artistic director and choreographer, Graham Barker, and musical director, John Perrin, team up, bringing an amazing show to life, orchestrating Dorothy, Toto and friends' tuneful trip to the Emerald City.

With top songs such as Over the Rainbow, If I only had a Heart, We’re off to see the Wizard, Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead and many more, it promises to be another KAOS cracker.

Performances start at 7.15pm.

Tickets are available from Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre on 01539-725133 or the Lakes Tickets page at www.breweryarts.co.uk.
