AN ARTHUR Miller classic is this year's Queen Katherine School's key stage four drama production.
Staged on Thursday and Friday, December 14-15 (7pm) in the Kendal school's main drama studio, The Crucible is a historical play based on the Salem witchcraft trials that took place in the small Puritan village in Massachusetts in 1692.
Miller wrote The Crucible in 1953 in response to the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s. He focuses in the play on the inconsistencies of the Salem witch trails and the extreme behaviour that can result from dark desires and hidden agendas.
In directing and producing the play, QKS head of performing arts, Caroline Barber, decided to strip the play down to the bare minimum: "The story is so strong and the characters drawn so powerfully that I decided to simply focus on the characters themselves and their stories. This is a very demanding play for 15 and 16 year olds to perform and I have been so impressed with the way that the cast of year 10 and 11 students have approached this challenge."
