SOUTH Lakeland tradesmen have been praised for their work in building a state-of-the-art house featured on a popular TV show.

The contemporary house, off Brantfell Road, Bowness – built from recycled material – is the brainchild of Bowness architect, Robert Gaukroger and featured on Channel Four’s property renovation show Grand Designs.

All the work was carried out by local firms and cost £185,000 to transform the original building into a new sustainable house.

Main contractor and joiner Ryan Lightely of RJL Joinery said: “It was exciting to work on and everybody helped to do other things too as it was a project that needed it.

“It was a challenge in places but the end result is superb and it’s nice to have the opportunity to work on such an innovative design.”

Once finished, part of the house will be used as a bed and breakfast.
