THE first half of Kendal Midday Music Club’s 70th anniversary season concludes on December 11 with early music group, Galliarda.

Formed in 2010, Galliarda comprises, Sara Stowe soprano and percussion; Ian Gammie, viola da gamba; Wendy Hancock, baroque flute, recorders, and viol; and Richard MacKenzie on baroque guitar, and theorbo.

Sara Stowe and Wendy Hancock had already met when recording Renaissance music together in Oxford for The Gift of Music label back in 2002. Ian Gammie then joined on viola da gamba, and brought with him a huge interest in and knowledge of Spanish and South-American music in particular.

The latest to join was Richard MacKenzie, recommended by the eminent lutenist Linda Sayce, for his outstanding ability on early plucked instruments.

They have just released their first CD Josep i Maria (Spanish and Catalan carols and dances).

Meanwhile, the musical magic continues in 2014 with the Northern Sinfonia on January 8.

KMMC concerts start at 1pm on alternate Wednesdays at Kendal Town Hall.

Snack lunches are available from 11.50pm.
