CUMBRIA’s BBC Introducing team are gearing up to host their first live gig showcasing the best in local musical talent.

Six acts from across the county will be performing at Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre on Thursday (March 27).

Producer and presenter of the year-old Introducing Radio Cumbria show Nell Dunn said the team were keen to get out of Carlisle for the first of these events.

“The Brewery has such a good reputation and if this one goes well we’ll hope to do more in different venues across Cumbria.

“It was so difficult to put a lineup together because we have so many great acts, but what we’ve tried to do is get a mix of different genres, experience levels, and people from different parts of the county.”

Performing at the event will be Woman’s Hour – Kendal-born but now residing in London.

Newly signed to Secretly Canadian, ‘Her Ghost’ is Woman’s Hour’s first release with their new label following a year which saw them become the sixth most blogged band of the year.

Also on the bill are The 45s - a hard-working Carlisle teenage quartet who play old-school Rhythm ‘n’ Blues and Rock’n’Roll.

David Kay is a 17-year-old, unsigned, acoustic singer/songwriter from Cark-in-Cartmel.

The Ulverston Sixth Form student recorded his track, People Who Want More, in his bedroom with his guitar and it went onto be picked up and played by BBC 6 Music earlier this year.

Luke Sharples is an 18-year-old who lives in Appleby and goes to Kendal College. Luke’s debut album ‘Live at The Circus’, which draws on the different twists and turns of growing up and maturity, is out now.
