THE revered sounds of Gershwin, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Leroy Anderson all play their part in the 50th celebrations of one of the region’s most popular ensembles.

Kendal Concert Band raises a glass to five successful decades of music making tomorrow (Friday, April 25, 7.30pm), promising a five star birthday performance in aid of the Kendal Mayoral charities at Kendal Town Hall.

Compered by BBC Radio Cumbria’s Harry King, the concert will be the first KCB programme conducted by Peter Bayliss alongside two eminent guest conductors - Edward Lawton and Jim Quincey. Both are former KCB musical directors and carried the band’s baton for many years; Jim stepped down last Christmas.

Tickets for the tune-laden get-together are available from John Lowther on 01539-721368, Age UK on Kendal’s Finkle St and Made in Cumbria, Stramongate.
