BRIGHTENING up a Sunday afternoon at the seaside will be dance and ballet music performed by the popular Promenade Concert Orchestra.
The musicians will open their eight season at Morecambe venue The Platform on Sunday, November 16 with an uplifting programme entitled Dancing Nights, conducted by musical director and founder Howard Rogerson.
Waltzes from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty ballets will be among the highlights, together with music from Gounod's opera Faust, and Ballet Égyptien by Luigini; the great Cinderella waltz by 90-year-old Lancashire-born Ernest Tomlinson; the Dancing Nights concert waltz by Eric Coates; and Arthur Sullivan's sunny Di Ballo overture.
National dances will be represented by composers such as Brahms and Smetana, and the orchestra will also play World War One march Vimy Ridge from the Canadian campaign effort.
The concert begins at 3pm. Box office 01524-582803 or visit www.lancaster.gov.uk/platform for more details.
