FRIDAY night is comedy night at Bowness with the Old Laundry opening its new theatre venue.

All things being equal, tomorrow night (May 22) should be a barrel of laughs as a trio of comedy stars pick up the microphone at the aptly named Laundrama on Rayrigg Road.

Compere will be the energetic and quirky John Lebbon, a Cumbrian lad whose comedy writing and natural talent has caught the eye of Dave Spikey, creator of Phoenix Nights.

First up on the new studio space stage is Phil Walker, son of Roy Walker, and favourite on the London Comedy Store scene. Also set to have the audiences in stitches are Rob Mullholland and George Rigden, both talented comedians who aim to keep the gags flowing all night long.

Formerly Rayrigg Rooms, the Old Laundry team spent four months renovating the building, previously owned by St Martin's Church and used as a community hall.

With its beautifully restored oak beams and panels and fabulous gold-leaf starred ceiling, the Old Laundry will use the new space for informal events such as the comedy night and other cabaret style events, including the popular Faulty Towers dining experience which comes later in the year as part of the Old Laundry's highly acclaimed theatre season.

OL theatre manager Fliss Pocock said: “Friday nights are made for this - laughs, friends, good food and drink. The view from any seat in the room is great with food served to your allocated table."

The comedy show stars at 7.30pm. Tickets are available online at www.oldlaundrytheatre.co.uk.
