EDEN Arts Cumbrian Artist of the Year was awarded at a special ceremony at the Rheged Centre to emerging artist Sarah Tew of Cockermouth.

Her work was selected by an independent panel made up of Maddi Nicholson of Art Gene, Tonia Lu of Spring Fling, Mark Devereux of Devereux Projects and chaired by MP Rory Stewart.

Sarah's two standout works, Blade Printing and Stone Mould Series - which judge Mark Devereux said displayed a deep routed interest in interrogating the rural landscape - landed Sarah the £2,000 prize.

Meanwhile, the People’s Choice accolade and £500 was awarded to painter Alan Stones.

The Young Cumbrian Artist of the Year award, presented by Mark Cropper, chairman of James Cropper Paper Mill which sponsored the award, went to Bronny Salter for her animations. The exhibition continues until June 28 and includes the selected works of 25 artists. Open daily 10.30am-4.30pm at the Rheged Gallery, Rheged Centre, near Penrith.
