KENDAL Art Society is preparing for its ever-popular summer art exhibition at the town's Stricklandgate House.

The society has been nurturing local talent and creativity since 1931 and its summer showcase is always a feast for art lovers, when members present their latest works.

The exhibition is to open to the public on Saturday, July 18 and runs until on Saturday, August 1 (closed on Sundays).

Among this year's exhibitors will be Brigsteer artist Sheila King, society chairman, and Lucy Bagot, of Levens.

Lucy went to art school aged 17, specialising in photography, but is now an accomplished watercolour artist.

She loves to paint flowers, and until recently she was artist-in-residence at Levens Hall for two years.

Sheila, meanwhile, paints mainly in oils but also likes to experiment with other media. She is known for her vibrant abstracts, as well as local scenes and skies.

Having been a member of Kendal Art Society for ten years, Sheila is now society chairman, and she has previously exhibited in Norfolk, where she lived for 21 years.

As well as the exhibition at Stricklandgate House, the society's summer activities also include outdoor sketching and painting sessions. To find out more, visit www.kendalartsociety.co.uk
