THERE promises to be plenty of laughs reverberating around the Brewery this autumn.

Included in the forthcoming season's line up will be Tim Brooke-Taylor best known as one-third of the UK’s most popular ever comedy acts.

He shot to stardom with legendary laughter making trio The Goodies who had families glued to their televisions during the 1970s/80s with their surreal sketch show.

Tim will host a special evening of stories from his career in comedy at the Kendal arts centre on September 12, covering memorable moments such as his stint pedalling The Goodies tandem alongside Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie, and appearing on BBC Radio 4’s popular quiz I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.

Tim is just one of a number of top comedians heading to the Brewery; the programme also includes Irish funny man and Lake District fell walking enthusiast, Ed Byrne, who will be performing his new show Outside, Looking In on December 2.

Phoenix Nights compère Jerry St Clair aka Dave Spikey will be donning his boxing gloves for a knockout night of laughs in Punchlines (October 22) and Mark Thomas will be performing his acclaimed show Cuckooed, which recounts the remarkable story of how he became the target of a spying campaign from Britain’s largest arms manufacturer BAE (October 13).

Kicking off the massive - and wide-ranging - music programme on September 12, will be legendary ska outfit The Beat who are returning to the Brewery with original vocalist, and the voice behind hits such as Mirror in the Bathroom, Dave Wakeling. Blues fans can enjoy a double-bill of killer licks from celebrated blues rock guitarist Joanne Shaw Taylor (October 3) and top young rising stars of the genre Laurence Jones and Red Butler (October 8).

And folk music also features heavily including a gig from Scottish 'Bagrock' band Red Hot Chilli Pipers (September 24).

As for rock, pioneering 1970s outfit Curved Air play the Brewery on November 13, still fronted by singer Sonia Kristina.

The highlight of the autumn theatre programme promises to be the pop-up Roundabout theatre which will host four days of performances from in-demand Paines Plough Theatre Company in the grounds of Kendal's Abbot Hall from September 30-October 3.

Other productions to check out include an African dance interpretation of Bizet’s opera Carmen entitled Africarmen by Tavaziva Dance (November 6); Dickens Abridged by the ever-popular Reduced Shakespeare Company (September 26) and folk icon Mike Harding will be leading a journey through his life entitled The Adventures of the Crumpsall Kid (November 14).

The new season also sees a huge expansion in the Brewery’s live theatre screening programme and includes a raft of performances screened live from the prestigious National Theatre, including The Beaux Stratagem (September 3), Coriolanus (September 24) Hamlet (October 15), Of Mice and Men (November 19) and Jane Eyre (December 8).

And that's not all - the Kendal arts centre is also a host venue to two of the region's biggest festivals - the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, which runs from October 16-18, and the world-leader Kendal Mountain Festival, climbing to dizzy heights once again, from November 20-22.
