THE winner of this year's Upfront Artists Open Exhibition is Carlisle artist Mark Gibbs. Mark - who combines found objects in assemblages with sculpted pieces - takes first prize and £1,000 with well-known Kendal painter Catherine MacDiarmid among the other prizewinners. This is the 15th year that the Upfront Open has been staged. The exhibition runs at the popular gallery, near Hutton in the Forest, Penrith, until March 13. Open Tuesday-Sunday, 10.30am-4.30pm.
