ROCK legends Status Quo have been announced as the headliners for a weekend of charity gigs in Windermere.

Rock On Windermere, which will take place from June 17 - 19, will give people a weekend of live musical entertainment in order to raise funds for Cumbrian flood relief.

It is being organised by Windermere Rotary Club and will take place on the Glebe, overlooking the lake at Windermere.

Mike Blackledge, president of Windermere Rotary Club, said: "We want to show that Cumbria is open for business after the floods. We are trying to attract people from the local area and also from further away.

"The events will help support the hospitality and retail businesses in the area impacted by the floods.

"We want to provide people with a lot of fun and musical entertainment. The Glebe is a great location to have an event of this nature.

"The rotary club were planning an event on the Glebe for quite some time and the opportunity to do this grew out of that.

"We had the chance to get Status Quo and we took a big gulp and decided we had the resources and the support to manage it."

Status Quo will be supported by Toploader, of 'Dancing in the Moonlight' fame, on the Saturday. Friday will provide a gentle lead into the weekend with Gordon Hendricks as Elvis appearing, together with Platinum as the live Abba tribute show.

Rock On Windermere has been fitted in to a busy year for Status Quo, who are embarking on their last ever full electric tour, playing arenas across the country.

The band, who have released 31 studio albums since 1968, say they may do other things and a few special concerts after the farewell tour, but this will be the last chance to see the full band on tour.

Tickets for Rock On Windermere are available from the Brewery Arts Centre, and can be purchased online.
