SIXTEEN young, talented international dancers, hand-picked by esteemed choreographer Jasmin Vardimon and brought together under her company's JV2 Dance, take to the stage of Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre on Thursday, April 14 (7.30pm).

JV2 2016 features Jasmin’s work which was first created for the National Youth Dance Company in 2013 and premiered at Sadlers Wells. The work echoes relationships between humans and the natural environment.

The other two pieces are by AΦE and Vinicius Salles and all present highly physical work from exceptionally gifted and theatrical dancers.

The Jasmin Vardimon Company was founded in London in 1997 and rapidly rose to become a significant element within the British dance theatre scene. The company is dedicated to the choreography of artistic director, Jasmin Vardimon, associate artist of Sadler’s Wells since 2006. Renowned for her uniquely theatrical choreographic and directorial style combining physical theatre, quirky characterisation, innovative technologies, text and dance, Jasmin accentuates her work with an acute observation of human behaviour.

Aimed at developing, encouraging and cultivating young talent and young audiences, JV2 delivers a professional development certificate and provides participants with a wonderful opportunity to train as versatile and multi-disciplinary performers, touring nationally alongside Jasmin's highly respected company.

The company's education manager, Lauren Baldock, says that throughout the JV2 programme students learn the technical foundations of dance theatre, and the specific approach developed by Jasmin: "Alongside dance techniques, students explore professional repertoire, theatrical skills, voice coaching, body conditioning, analytical and educational techniques," explains Lauren.

"The programme provides experience in various performance disciplines including movement, voice, drama, music and visual arts. Designed for a small group of students, allowing one on one interaction with Jasmin Vardimon and company members, the programme is an ideal opportunity for participants to deepen their knowledge of Vardimon’s methodology and apply it to their own creative exploration.

"JV2 also provides the opportunity for young choreographers to create work on the JV2 company and receive artistic mentoring, administrative and marketing support."
