A TERRIFIC trio of laughter makers is ready to descend on Kendal next week in a side splitting fundraiser in aid of the town's Torchlight Carnival.

Hosted by Simon Yaxley of Lakeland Radio, the comedy gig is staged at Kendal Town Hall on Saturday, May 14 (8pm), graced by quality comedians, Mike Wilkinson, Philip Simon and Rob Rouse.

All three said they were really looking forward to playing Kendal.

Rob has appeared on television shows such as Celebrity Juice, 8 out of Ten Cats and the Friday Night Project and is embarking on a brand new comedy tour for the autumn and spring: "I'm currently editing the next episode of my podcast where my mother-in-law reviews the new Iggy Pop Album then destroys a computer with a sledgehammer."

He's also just worked with Ben Elton: "Well, that was a real pleasure and a highlight," explained Rob. "As a bored 11-year-old kid in a small village I watched Saturday live and the Young Ones from the start, then grew up on Blackadder, so it was very exciting for me."

Meanwhile, Mike Wilkinson oozes down to earth northern charm, possessing a dry humour and razor sharp wit. He's been a professional comic for seven years and has supported the likes of Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas and Ross Noble, as well as headlining clubs far and wide.

Mike has a laid back style onstage, he regularly comperes and appears at The Frog and Bucket, Jongleurs and is a member of the Comedy Store's topical improv. group - MEN at Work.

Philip Simon has won many awards, including Jewish Comedian of the Year 2015, Lastminute Comedy Comedian of the Year 2015, and Kill for a Seat Comedy Comedian of the Year 2015.

He's one of the most sought after comperes and opening acts working on the UK comedy circuit today. His relaxed style coupled with his hilarious observations have been a winning combination with audiences across the country

Most recently he's been performing throughout the UK, as well as appearing in New York, Scandinavia, the Middle East and Auckland, where he headlined at The Classic.

All profits raised form the town hall show will go directly towards supporting this year's Torchlight spectacular on September 9. This year's theme is Celebrating Kendal's Spirit.

Torchlight committee member Martin Kinley said they really needed the people of Kendal to go along and support the comedy evening. He added: "We have capacity for 300 people and we want to sell as many as possible as all monies will go directly to running the Torchlight. Without all the volunteers behind the scenes and the money raised through events like these we would not be able to do this year after year.

"Kendal Torchlight has 27,000 people watching on average each year but requires a huge amount of time, energy and effort to be able to put on this great Kendal tradition.

"Doors will open at 7pm so you can socialise and buy your drinks, with Yakkers opening the night at 8pm."

Tickets are available from Kendal's Brewery Arts Centre, on 01539-725133 or at www.kendaltorchlightcarnival.co.uk/how-to-get-involved/fundraising-events/2016/5/torchlight-entertainment-evening.aspx.
