ONE of the world’s most renowned saxophonists is to play a gig in Ulverston, organised and supported by the town’s own saxophone star.

John Harle will be returning to Ulverston, having previously played in the town in 2015. The gig is organised by Jess Gillam, who will also play on the night, as will composer Steve Lodder.

Featuring brand new works written for John in his 60th birthday year, the concert is an opportunity to hear music by some of the most influential composers of today, by the master of the saxophone.

John Harle is an Ivor Novello Award-winning composer-performer and record producer.

He has written over 100 film and television scores, including the theme to BBC1’s ‘Silent Witness’, and the epic score to Simon Schama’s ‘History of Britain’.

John is the recipient of two Royal Television Society awards for ‘Best Soundtrack’, and has been awarded four BBC Prom concert commissions.

The Ulverston concert will take place at Coronation Hall on Friday April 21.
