YOUTH orchestras don't come much better than the Westmorland Youth Orchestra, an innovative ensemble that's been nurturing young musicians for nearly 70 years.

Inspired - A Concert Linking Music and Art is the WYO's next concert with conductor Fredrik Holm's second outing on the highly regarded orchestra's podium since he picked up the baton last year from Roland Fudge.

Staged at Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale, on Saturday, March 17 (7.30pm), the programme for the WYO's much awaited spring concert includes music by Saint-Saëns, Gershwin, Mussorgsky and Fredrik himself.

Conductor, bassoonist, composer and music teacher, the Swedish-born, Lancaster-based, musician has a wealth of experience under his belt and a CV to match and is well-known for his energy, enthusiasm and inventiveness.

The WYO will be led by Alistair Burton, who is also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain; soloist is flautist Laura Braithwaite.

Tickets are available at the door.
