PIANIST Sam Haywood performs a world premiere during his welcome return to Grange-over-Sands and District Concert Club on Friday, June 1, (8pm) at the Victoria Hall.
Sam - who was brought up at St Bees - will perform several works by Chopin and Schubert, and works by Alkan, Stanford and Mozart's son Franz Xaver as well as air his most recent composition Nocturne.
He has performed to critical acclaim in many of the world's major concert halls, often plays with leading cellist Steven Isserlis and has a regular duo partnership with American violinist Joshua Bell.
Following his early success in the BBC Young Musician of the Year when he was 13, he was awarded the Julius Isserlis (grandfather of Steven) Scholarship by the Royal Philharmonic Society. He has studied in Vienna and at the Royal Academy of Music in London who recently made him an associate (ARAM).
In 2013 Sam founded the Solent Music Festival with his wife Sophia Pagoni.
Sam enjoys working with young musicians, and has written the score for a children's opera and Song of the Penguins for bassoon and piano.
He is passionate about period instruments and has made a recording playing Chopin's own Pleyel piano.
