ULVERSTON Victoria High School's summer concert will see all the school's talented major music groups perform with the exception of its swing band, which will be heading to Paris on Thursday, July 12, for a short tour, including a televised performance from Disneyland to celebrate Bastille Day and a concert in central Paris as part of the International Music Festival.

Opening with the 45-strong junior band (years seven-nine), the first half of the school's Tuesday, July 10 (7.30pm) music showcase at Ulverston's Coronation Hall, will see both the junior and senior flute choirs, the saxophone ensemble, clarinet choir and brass ensemble perform a varied programme between them, as well as the full choir singing a harmonised version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and The Beatles Help!

The second half opens with the UVHS String Orchestra playing several pieces, including Summer from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, followed by the chamber choir with a five-part a cappella performance of Run To You by Pentatonix. The concert - under the expert and inspiring guidance of teacher Richard Butler - will close with the internationally renowned 95-strong UVHS Wind Band performing a wide variety of pieces and also saying farewell to the year 13 members of the band who are leaving.

The acclaimed wind band has just started preparations for an eight-day concert tour to Italy in July 2019.
